EMBELEM
The sunshine dispels darkness, sustains life, it is pink and exceedingly delightful at dawn and dusk and enlightens our vision and intellect. Sun worship is ancient and widespread. Our Rishis insist that the Sun God rides a chariot with seven horses, indicating that sunshine has seven colors. Lord Buddha preached seven charities to bathe our life in the sunshine of bliss. Pigeon is the messenger of peace and tranquillity
OUR MOTTO: DARIDRA DEVO BHAV
THE POOR AND THE AFFLICTED ARE OUR GOD
MOTIVATION
The dynamic force and motivation behind this trust is Shri Thakur ji, who is a blazing fire of divine love and ecstasy. His life and teachings, fathomless love and benediction, have given birth to the ideal that service of humanity is the worship of God. "Recognise the presence of the Lord in all creatures, from the highest to the lowest. Keep this ideal as the keynote of the religion of universal love before yourself." It is this ideal which has efflorescence into a sparkling variety of charitable, philanthropic and humanitarian activities. The intimate personal realization and illumination of the Master, his complete self-abnegation, his total oneness with God, his perfect purity, his strength of character, his love for all, his humble spirit of service to all beings - these are the channels through which his divine power and grace has flowed energizing, inspiring and guiding some of his chosen ones, to undertake this joint enterprise of charity and service. This worshipful service, he said, will purify and uplift the men who serve and also create favourable environments for ennobling those who are served.
So putting into action the marvellous teachings of Gurudeva numerous humanitarian projects for serving the poor, the sick and the afflicted with the spirit of selfless love were undertaken by Shri Dharm Paul ji affectionately known as Pujya Papa ji.
SAGA OF SERVICE
The story of the Sunshine Charity Trust (Registered) is a story of how God/Gurudeva worked through those devotees who surrendered their will to Him. The saga of our selfless service to the sick, the afflicted and the poor began in a very humble and mysterious way. A group of followers of Gurudeva Sri Thakur Ji Maharaj had gone to Indo-Pakistan Wagah border to witness the flag ceremony in Retreat when at sunset the flags of both the countries are lowered. It was a thrilling experience. The solemnity of the occasion was touching and inspiring. It was a feast of joy to see the smartness of Jawans. In the golden hues of the setting sun, these devotees were struck with awe to see the glittering upkeep of these Jawans whose obedience to their nations was total and final.
At that solemn hour these devotees felt a great desire to show similar total obedience like that of Jawans to their Gurudeva in following His great mission to help the poor and the suffering people. This truth dawned upon them that they too, like this band of smart and dedicated soldiers, can devote their energies in upholding their Gurudeva’s great gospel of ‘The poor are our God.’ All this happened as if Gurudeva Sri Thakurji Maharaj personality spoke to them. Thus, the seed thought of starting the selfless service on some concrete basis was germinated in the minds of these devotees. A divine brotherhood was formed and the Sunshine Charity Trust was established and duly registered.
Sri Gurudeva himself was always open heartedly giving his time, his strength and bountiful love to others and set himself a perfect example of selfless service for others to follow. His clarion call that all the people of the world are like one family, because we are made in the image of the Lord, is a very inspiring message and gives us a sense of universal brotherhood. This is the greatest motivation for any illumined soul to help all those suffering from disease and hunger, aching for relief. He assured his followers that there will never be any shortage of the material resources as the Lord will Himself use noble souls as His channel.
Accepting the divine command, these devotees pledged themselves to be faithful stewards of the money and the material which their Gurudeva directs to them for selfless service. The Sunshine Charity Trust was duly registered with the Government on 2nd May, 1981. Upon getting a piece of land as gift from the Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Tagore Garden Extension, New Delhi, the trust constructed an outdoor charitable allopathic hospital for the slum dwellers of West Delhi. This hospital started functioning from 1st Nov. 1982.
With the motto of ‘The poor and the sick are our God’ the Sunshine Charity Trust aims at preserving, inculcating and generating the spirit of selfless service, the value of love, compassion, dedication and magnanimity so that we identify ourselves with the needs of the suffering brothers and sisters.
A true and selfless ‘Sankalpa (thought)’; when it is ushered in the heart of a person and when the Sankalpa is consistently worked out by a disciplined team of dedicated souls, becomes
Lord’s own expression, and His Grace attends to such a loving enterprise. The remarkable success achieved by the Charitable Hospital, Pathological Lab & Dispensaries’ at various places speaks volumes of His fathomless grace.
